Teryn Buna

Physiotherapist

Bio:

Teryn qualified as a Physiotherapist from UBC after developing a firm understanding of the body through a Bachelor of Science in Health & Exercise Physiology at the University of Calgary. Her early years in the world of private practice physiotherapy left her with many questions which pushed her to pursue further studies. In 2014, she completed a post-graduate Masters in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy from the University of Queensland in Australia. After completing her studies she incorporated research assistant and clinical education work around Australia along-side her clinical work.

During her studies, Teryn developed a passion for treating neck-related problems including headaches, neck-related dizziness and concussions. She treats these injuries with a focussed hands-on approach and active rehabilitation. Her aim is to help her patients overcome their injuries and get back to living their best life using a combination of manual therapy, dry-needling, oculomotor training, education and targeted exercise prescription.

In addition to working in the clinic, Teryn was able to combine her passion for physio and Ultimate Frisbee while working with Australian teams at the World Beach Ultimate Championships in France 2017.

Teryn can also speak French and Spanish.

Roger Zhou

Physiotherapist

Bio:

Roger graduated with a Bachelors of Sport and Exercise Science and a Masters of Physiotherapy from the University of Sydney. He places great value in tailoring therapy so it is patient centred and delivering the highest quality of service. He has a keen interest in exercise focused physiotherapy, based on the latest clinical research which he combines in his one on one treatment sessions. He is also skilled in dry needling and myofascial cupping techniques. He is fluent in both English and Cantonese. Outside of the clinic he has experience in boxing and a regular gym goer with extensive knowledge on weight training. Having to rehab himself from injuries sustained in martial arts, he has the personal experience of specialized rehab and returning to sports post-injury.

Zoë Barton

Kinesiologist, Office Administrator

Outside of the clinic, Zoë is a dance teacher at Dance Express and thoroughly enjoys sharing her passion for dance with young children.

Bio:

Zoë completed her Bachelor of Kinesiology degree at the University of British Columbia. She is certified in Functional Movement Screen Levels 1 & 2, allowing her to screen for movement deficiencies and asymmetries and prescribe corrective exercises. She has been accepted to physiotherapy school and will soon join PhysioStop’s ranks as a physiotherapist herself!
 
Zoë believes continuing education is a critical part of being a health care practitioner. She is always striving to learn more to provide the highest standard of care.
 
Outside of the clinic, Zoë is a dance teacher at Dance Express and thoroughly enjoys sharing her passion for dance with young children. She is an active participant in pilates, barre, and spin classes, and will soon complete her certified Pilates instructor course. Zoë also loves sports, so you can often find her watching hockey or football in her spare time.

Leah Turman

Physiotherapist

Leah has successfully completed her Levels 1 and 2 Advanced Integrated Musculoskeletal training through the Orthopaedic Division as well as concussion management. Outside of the clinic you can find Leah hiking with her dog, lifting weights, skiing, and enjoying the Vancouver food scene.

Bio:

Leah completed both her Master of Physical Therapy degree and her Bachelor of Kinesiology at the University of Manitoba, graduating at the top of her class in orthopedics. She believes in utilizing evidence-based practice to guide all of her assessments and treatments and approaches her work using a combination of manual therapy, therapeutic exercises, and education. She has clinical experience treating a wide range of clientele including pediatrics, older adults, athletes, post-surgical, and individuals with spinal cord injuries.
 
Leah’s approach involves using various hands-on treatment techniques and helping clients understand their bodies throughout the rehab process. She provides specific treatment plans and exercises based on each individual’s findings and conducts a reassessment at every visit to monitor changes and adapt the treatment plan as needed. She also performs IMS (dry needling).

Dacia Zavitz

Founder, Physiotherapist

Dacia is a mother to two boys and one girl, who keep her very active. She enjoys outdoor activities like swimming, running, biking, and skiing and enjoys playing the piano.

Bio:

Dacia graduated with a degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta in 2004 and completed her Diploma in Advanced Manual and Manipulative Therapy from the Canadian Physiotherapy Association in 2008. Her approach is patient-centered, combining manual therapy, patient education, and specific exercise prescription to assist each patient reach their goals. She possesses extensive experience in treating musculoskeletal injuries related to the neck and back, which includes injuries related to motor vehicle accidents, repetitive strain, traumatic work or athletic injuries, and symptoms related to postural dysfunction and muscle imbalances.

I excelled academically—I was at the top of my faculty in University, and I am a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy. Paired with that, I have extensive experience treating a huge variety of musculoskeletal injuries in people of all ages.

I solve problems quickly and effectively with what appears to be magic, but it’s just years of refining my knowledge and skills. The magic happens every day. People tell me I change their lives; tears of joy and gratitude are shed at the clinic daily. Being able to help my clients to this degree is what pushes me to continually improve.”
